Mozie The Dog

Hi There.... My name is Mozie and I'm a Golden Retreiver.

Boy do I like to retreive -- and I can go non-stop day and night.
I'm cute huh?

Here is my sister Sophie - she is prettier than me but

Are they 10 already??

May 1st was a lovely day. Not only was it May Day, the sun was shining, the garden was in bloom and I had a house full of puppies and friends.

10 years, and these babies are just as beautiful as the day they were born.

Humans and canines had a wonderful time. There was cake, hot dog bobbing, frosty paws, ball chasing, hugs, laughter and great food!

It's so wonderful that at 10 they are still doing so well.

At the end of the day humans and puppies were ready for a long nap......

Home and Garden Tour 2010

I was fortunate enough to be selected for our town's annual home and garden tour which is from noon-4 this Sunday 6/13/10. It's a benifit for the Mark Children's House- so for a good cause. If you have time come on out and purchase a ticket and join the fun.

Here is the write-up I composed that was posted in the program:

Enter into this vintage 1936 cottage and allow yourself to be taken back in time. Here you will find a home filled with vintage collectibles cherished by the homeowner and creatively displayed throughout the house. Fresh flowers from the garden fill each room bringing a sweet fragrance as you wander about. The home has been lovingly restored by both the current and previous owners. The dining room has been updated with warm colors, crown molding and wainscoting while the living room strikes a bold statement with a barrel ceiling, beautiful fireplace mantle and tile.

The kitchen was recently updated to include craftsman tile that matches the style of the home. Matchstick hardwood floors and bathroom tile are original which adds to the character of the home.To the rear of the home you will find a wonderful sun room off of the guest bedroom, the perfect spot for breakfast and the morning paper as well as a perfect view of the garden. Off of the master bedroom the French doors lead to the deck that invites an evening glass of wine as the sun sets.

The highlight of this home is the tremendous garden that surrounds the home. Rosanne, an avid gardener, has put in countless hours building her private garden retreat into a haven of flowers. This is the quintessential classic cottage garden: overflowing with antique and English roses, herbs and perennials replete with a cutting garden, stone walkways & patio, potting shed, fountains and stunning vintage garden accessories.

The garden is shared by many birds, bees and Rosanne’s three beloved golden retrievers (Summer, Sophie and Mozie).

Here is a link to the Tour's website:

See you there!

Here are just a few of the photos taken from tour day.
The Main Garden....

There is nothing more relaxing than to sit on my deck overlooking the garden as the sun is setting; the warm feeling on my face is heaven.... a glass of wine is nice too....

And on cold days, there is always the sun room; ready for a nice cup of tea...

Fresh lemons and flowers from the garden...

Enter into my world of magic.....

The birds, buterflies and bees are regular visitors to this magical garden...

The following Story was written at the request of Summer's Eye Clinic - Animal Eye Care - in Fremont. I thought it was worth posting here. See my archives for video's of Summer in action.

September, 2009

It’s hard to believe that Summer just celebrated her 12th birthday and that it’s been just about 2 years since she lost her eye sight.

She is one happy girl and her blindness does not get in her way. Where her eyes once helped her to find food, her nose and ears have taken over. Summer can hear a piece of rice fall on the floor and can catch cookies as you drop them towards her nose.

She finds balls in the garden where my 3 year old golden Mozie can’t. When we play fetch with Mozie, Summer often grabs the dropped ball before I can and then plays keep-away by trying to hide the ball in her bed.

When Summer first lost her sight I put in a ramp for her to get out into the yard. Today, the ramp is gone and she manages to get out through the doggie door and has no problem getting up and down the steps without assistance. She goes for walks and looks forward to weekend romps to the coffee shop with her doggie friends where they all wait at the back door for their cookies.

Summer has not lost her love of balls. It was a very hot day and time to try out the kiddie pool. She had a blast. She went back and forth from the pool to the lawn fetching the balls as I dropped them in the water. She was so exhausted I had to make her stop.

For anyone facing this decision, it’s not an easy one. I was so fearful that Summer would be depressed and her quality of life would suffer. I was wrong. As you can see by these pictures Summer is one amazing happy dog! She still occasionally bumps into things and at times gets so excited about getting a cookie that she will get lost and lose her way, but she quickly regroups and finds where she was originally headed.

Summer Goes Fishing

Doggie Bliss!

Before we go fishing, I thought I would share my most favorite picture of Summer.... she was patiently waiting for her breakfast the other morning:

This is just one of many video's I took of Summer this hot day... It was the end of June and one of the hottest days we have had in a long time, so out came the kiddie pool. Summer decided since she could no longer chase balls, that fishing for balls would be equally fun. For over an hour she went back and forth from the pool to the lawn until she was so exhausted I had to make her stop.

Enjoy!

And here is Summer at the end of her adventure.... happy as a pig in mud!

Hi there.... boy it's been a long time since I've posted to my blog.... time flys far too quickly.

Summer is still going strong and loves to go to the coffee shop on the weekends. Her back leggs are a little weak to walk the entire way so I drive her part way and she walks the rest - she knows when it's Saturday - I swear!

It's going to be a wonderful weekend for time in the garden so I'll take some pictures and post them next week - the garden is coming along and looks lovely!

Enjoy these pictures of our coffee shop adventures. The one with the group was part of an article posted in our local San Leandro Times newspaper.
